New SEASON INFORMATION WILL GO UP BY THE END OF THE WEEK, WITH A FULL LIST OF TEAMS. THOSE OF YOU WHO CANNOT CONTINUE PLEASE GET IN TOUCH BUT FOR THE MAJORITY SEE YOU ALL VERY SOON FOR SEASON 10

It was the final stages of the BBC cup and plate this week; all teams were looking to take home silverware in a different style of matches. Some teams were up against better opposition and that fired them up a bit more!

Game 1: MSE vs. Avanta fc

Avanta never looked to be under any real danger by their opponents as they cruised comfortably to a 3-0 victory against an MSE side who have to look to league one football. Jim scored 2 goals to put Avanta in their comfort zone as time ticked on for MSE to try get back into the game; in the 2nd half James Driscoll got the 3rd goal to seal victory as Avanta progressed to the semi-finals!

Game 2: Repucom vs. Refine Utd

Refine had a tough challenge on their hands as Repucom were 1 of the favourites to reach the final and challenge for the trophy. It was 2-0 at half time to Repucom as James and Glenn Williamson got a goal each to their name to put their team in the driver’s seat for the 2nd half. Repucom did exactly the same as they did in the 1st half scoring 2 goals to seal a 4-0 victory as Sean Gallagher and Matt Greenlees rounded up the goals as the favourites progressed!

Game 3: Reith Rovers vs. All Rights

A refurbished Reith Rovers were always in control of this game as All right struggled to keep possession as their opponents were just too good for them. Artem scored the opening goal of the game that was followed by team mate Luca adding a 2nd just minutes later. Daniel and Sam added a goal each in the 2nd half to end the game at 4-0 as Reith progressed easily to the semi-finals.

Game 4: Bodyworks West vs. Not So Athletic

Not so athletic turnt up a couple of minutes late so the game was a little shorter than normal; meaning the winner progressed straight to the finals. Bodyworks didn’t let their opponents late arrival spoil their mind set as they progressed winning 2-1. Simon Darius scored the opening goal for West to put them in the lead and main man Leroy got his name on the score sheet minutes later. In the 2nd half Shan got a goal back for Athletic but they couldn’t get that equaliser they were desperate for as they ran out of time. Not So make their full season debut in 2 weeks.

Game 5: Red Star vs. Cambridge University

Cambridge didn’t waste any time to get the 1st goal as Tom smashed his strike past the keeper to give his side momentum and they held on to that lead until half time. In the 2nd half Tim Smith scored twice for Cambridge to put them into cruise control as Red Star barely had any attempts on their goal!

Semi-final 1: Cambridge University vs. Reith Rovers

This was a very cagey semi-final that saw both teams try to suss each other out and find their weakness. There was only one goal in the game and it was Cambridge’s Tom that got it using his right foot to stroke the ball past the keeper to send his team into the knockout stage for the final!

Semi-final 2: Repucom vs. Avanta fc

This was probably the tie of the Cup as it ended up going to a penalty shoot-out! Repucom took the lead early on through James Driscoll but  when David nicked an equaliser with his right, the fans were stunned and the game went to penalties! Avanta won the toss and chose to  kick 2nd oddly; James stepped up 1st for Repucom and calmly slotted his past the keeper, James then stepped up for Avanta and his was saved by Matt Greenlees! Sean Gallagher was next for Repucom and his pen was also saved by the keeper Jeremy; David stepped up for Avanta and coolly beat the keeper to make it 1-1 with 2 pens left. Glenn Williamson scored his penalty for Repucom, alas Avanta had their last chance saved by Greenlees it looked to be going over anyway. Repucom through to the final 3

The final 3 was quick fire 10 minute matches and BWW the fresher of the lot took the field and took a  0-0 against Cambridge unfortunately for BWW they exited the competition losing their 2nd against Repucom 1-0. This meant the final game was to be the decider.

Cup Final: Cambridge University vs. Repucom

This was an intense final that saw 2 teams suss each other out and break down each other’s moves constantly as they both wanted to win so badly. 1 slip up proved costly as it was the only goal of the game that came from Sean Gallagher of Repucom scoring.

Repucom are crowned double winners

The playe

As most teams were concentrating on the cup there were other teams that were busy thinking about the Plate and progressing to the final of that so they had some silverware to lift at the end of it! Iniesta played their bout last week and were waiting to see who they played in the semi finals.

Game 1: Informaniacs vs. Mosquitos

This seemed like a pretty straight forward game for Informaniacs as they ran out 2-0 winners with Mosquitos showing little desire to go through to the semi-final. Sam Oakley and Dane Cave were the 2 goal scorers for the Maniacs as they went into the semi-final full of confidence. We were all shocked as this had to go down as an upset.

Game 2: Canvas vs. Orange Digital

Canvas were always in control of this one as they wanted to go through more than their opponents quite simply. Pete opened the scoring for Canvas early on and that was followed by Oliver getting his name on the score sheet making it 2-0. In the 2nd half Canvas extended their lead as Duncan got the 3rd making it 3-0 and late on Joe got a consolation goal for Orange Digital to end the game 3-1.

Game 3: Real SoSoBad vs. Microstrategy

SoSoBad were the favourites to progress out of this fixture as they were known for fighting hard and having a never say die attitude. They won this game 2-1 thanks to Russ Edwards as he scored both goals to give his team breathing space in case their opponents got 1 back; they did and it was Ian who got the goal to make it a nervous last few minutes but they didn’t manage to create a clear cut chance as SoSoBad held on for victory!

Semi-final: Canvas vs. Informaniacs

This was an intense clash that could see either team progress depending on how much effort they wanted to put into it after their previous fixtures. Sam Oakley put Maniacs ahead making it 1-0 although it didn’t last very long as Oliver equalised for Canvas to make it 1 apiece! Nerves started to show as the final whistle loomed and Sam Oakley took advantage of that as he smashed home the winner with his right foot in the last minute sending the Maniacs crazy!

Semi-final: Iniesta 116 vs. Real SoSoBad

Iniesta 116 had fresh legs and their energy showed as they ran away 3-0 winners with SoSoBad having tired legs and not a lot left in the tank. Carlos Lopez opened the scoring which dropped Reals heads even more and they knew they weren’t going to the final when Javier Selma scored twice in quick succession to send the Spaniards into the final!

Plate final: Iniesta 116 vs. Informaniacs

Iniesta 116 were given a game by Informaniacs as Iniesta seemed tired from the previous game. None the less, Carlos Lopez put Iniesta 116 in the lead early on putting Maniacs under pressure from the get go; Jose added a 2nd a few minutes later as the heads of Informaniacs dropped slowly. In the 2nd half Sam Oakley got a goal back for Maniacs to make it a close finish and it was Sam who had the chance to equalise but he fluffed it in the closing seconds and a shot was also saved.

Iniesta are crowned plate champions
