Cup round 1

The BBC Cup brought out some never before seen footage this week and some shocks all part and parcel of the cup magic..

Game 1: Repucom vs. Informaniacs

Repucom comfortably beat Informaniacs taking a 2-0 lead into half time as Ross McCall got a 1st half double. In the 2nd half Repucom continued to play their style of football and Matt went on a solo run to slot home. Benny got 1 goal back for Informaniacs to make it 3-1 but the game was over once Matt got his 2nd and James rounded up with a well-deserved goal to his name for his hard work!  Final score was 5-1. Sean Gallagher was awarded the MOM award for his brilliant work in defence.

Game 2: Informaniacs vs. Refine Utd

Informaniacs were awarded a 2nd chance in the cup due to original team Accenture not showing. Unfortunately the league one outfit were officially dumped out the competition by Refine United who won 6-0 as Mark and Leo helped themselves to a double each, Leo can thank team mate Kimo for some super passes. The other 2 goal scorers were Abul Ali and Phil Dumas who got a goal each but played important parts in other areas of the pitch! Mark was awarded the MOM award for 2 good goals and a good work rate.

Game 3: MSE vs. Mosquitos

The 1st half of this game was a bore draw as they started of cagey sizing each other out as to how they would go about their game today. Then in the 2nd half Dom Meesman opened the scoring with a super right footed strike that went into the bottom corner from range putting the Mossy’s ahead; as the game progressed Darren got an equaliser for MSE in the last minute as MSE pulled one out of the bag. There could have been more goals but Will (MSE) and Azzo (Mosquitos) were superb all game. Penalties beckoned and in a never before seen climax over 15 penalties were saved by each side, so much so that the game had to be moved to a different pitch. Eventually MSE won the game after Will saved and MSE converted. Not sure who takes MOM in this one but Will got the refs vote for some cracking stops.

Game 4: Canvas fc vs. Avanta fc

This game was a tale of two keepers. Jeremy (Avanta) making countless saves throughout the game keeping out the likes of Duncan, Olly and Peter whilst Nick (Canvas) also had to stop Rafael and his prowling runs. In the end no goals and penalties. Duncan Rowden missed Canvas’ opening penalty and then Jason missed for Avanta, this was followed by Peter O Brien missing another penalty for Canvas. The only penalty scored was from Avanta’s DK which was followed by Oliver missing for Canvas so league one Avanta upset Canvas FC.

Game 5: Red Star White City vs. Barearselona

This game was dominated by Red Star from start to finish as they won 8-0 with man of the match Andrew Stone scoring a hat-trick, a brace coming from James Leonard and individual goals coming from Ivan Lazic, Mark Edger and Mick in a good team performance! It was total football for Star now can they use this win to boost their survival campaign.

Game 6: Orange Digital fc vs. Cambridge University Netball team

Cambridge ran the show in this game taking a 4-0 half time lead against their opponents with man of the match Ryan scoring a brace and Richard got a double to his name in the 1st half; 1 being a long range right footed strike into the bottom corner. Lewis Bazley got a goal back for the oranges in the 2nd half to make it 4-1 but Clarke got a 5th for Cambridge and that goal killed off the oranges hopes of a comeback to end the game 5-1!

Game 6: Real SoSoBad vs. Bodyworks West

This game was taken over by 1 man from Bodyworks West; Leroy scored a double in the 1st half to give his team a 2-0 lead at the break; 1 of his goals was a terrific solo run beating a couple of defenders to then smash past the keeper into the net! He then continued his hot streak in the 2nd half to complete his hat-trick and get the man of the match award and the game ended 3-0! Brian Baker also impressed with some strong challenges as BWW cruised to the next phase.

Game 7: Chronicle Hackers vs. All Rights

Both teams were very cagey in the 1st half and despite skill from Rob (Hackers) and shots from Andy (All rights) it was 0-0 at the break. In the 2nd half All rights took the lead through Andrew Turner and then shortly after a 2nd goal came from Charlie Moss making it 2-0 in their favour. The goal of the game was scored by Dory of Hackers as he came out of goal to then smash a strike from halfway to get a goal back. It was an even steven game and All rights hung on to the win as league one outfit shock championship opposition.

Game 8: Iniesta 116 vs. Reith Rovers

This was the clash of the night as both teams were top of their own domestic league; Iniesta took a 2-1 half time lead although Rovers scored the opener with Ollie getting his name on the score sheet but goals from Javier Reig and Jose put the Spanish boys back in the lead by half time. The 2nd half was a different story as Les McGibbon took the game into his own hands scoring a double to put rovers back into the lead with the score at 3-2. That was followed by Steve Condie getting a goal to his name for rovers and Les then completed his hat-trick to make the score 5-2 as he smashed a shot 1st time past the keeper! Javier Reig  got a goal back for Iniesta but it was too little too late and rovers progressed!
