Welcome to week 9,
New season information
The league season finishes at the end of this month. We will restart the season following a 2 week break where season fees will be collected. Please note prices remain the same. So far practically all teams have semi-confirmed their continuance but there is also news of 2 other teams joining the party with the return of ECOM capturing most headlines. Please do discuss your continuation with your teams and I will ask you the question once again next week in person. It has once again been a privilege having you all and I hope you will all continue in this lovely league.
This week
This week’s action saw 3 very tight games all separated by 5 points or less. At the top of the table in a local rivalry the Crackers remained in pole position after they took down the Firebirds, close on their tail are the Hoop Dogs who fought off an amazing JRP comeback to end victors 3 points off the pace. Hoop Dogs and crackers go head to head next week. Athenas and Wonders was our derby encounter of the evening with no love loss between the two it was Athenas who humiliated the Wonders. For Athenas a win keeps them in 3rd whilst Wonders will battle to avoid being crowned rear of the year in their final 2 games

Comeback queens
Hoop Dogs had looked comfortable up to the start of Q4 where JRP scored the first 2 points of the game with Kim and Carmen respectively to make it 17-17, not a scene we would have imagined with Rebecca as usual terrific in Centre and Asmeera producing some perfect passes. JRP went on to lose the game but once again the fighting spirit of JRP shone through.
Whoop there it is
Zara H (Athenas) just couldn’t miss today; in remarkable form the umpire clearly stated it was her lucky pants.
Move of the day
Our move of the day involved Centre Rebecca Gray and WD Trish (JRP). Rebecca did an almost rugby like underarm pass to Trish who flew across the centre third to catch it, all this from a centre pass, looked like it was straight from the training ground.
Untouchable
Virginia (Crackers) has probably the strangest technique to a netball shot ever seen but every shot is as mouth-watering as the next as she scored from range.
Twin vision
The crowd was divided this week, but so two were families as WA and WD for Athenas and Wonders locked horns. Growing up together learning in the mean streets of Netball Ville both players put it to the test and delivered our best battle of the evening
Yes its ladies night
Perhaps the most fashionable girls took centre stage as we saw some very interesting netball gear in the Athenas vs. Wonders game. Bright green shorts, clouds for tights and a Persian rug look alike for tights also. Dressed by GoKWan because they looked fabulous.
The interceptors
Pippa Dagnall and Meranna Prime (Hoops) were in fine form breaking up the JRP attacks with arms smashing the ball away.
Ella Walker (Crackers) with some stunning intercepts throughout the entire game, WA may as well have just stayed at home
She is Alive
Rebecca Gray with perhaps the best moment of the season caught a ball then lost her footing and laid straight down on the floor, then got back up with the ball and carried on, the umpire whilst amazed she didn’t drop the ball still called her for stepping, not sure if it was stepping looked like she just fell asleep for a moment.
Most obstructions ever seen
Sorry Big Dog but it has to be you as Natalie Biggs conceded the most obstructions ever seen in netball history, she made up for it with a good defensive performance (when she was not standing out of play for the obstruction ;)
From me to you with love
So in the Athenas vs. Wonders game they were so friendly with one another they decided to swap both GA and GS in the final quarter at this stage Athenas were 21-8 ahead. It finished 23-18. Right swap, wrong time
Deadly duo
Had to be Charlotte “hammer” Habin and Zara “x factor” Hannaford ‘(Athenas) were just absolutely nailing the Wonders.
Welcome to the score charts
Sophie Bennett (Wonders) at long last puts her name down on the score charts
Honourable mention
Bemma (Firebirds) she was incredible at the back for the Birds but it just wasn’t her week as the Crackers attack was too lethal.
